What is Wisdom? and Jim Rohn Wisdom
Wisdom is having the right information to make the right decision at the right time (Pastor Nate Hill).
I had the privilege to meet my favorite philosopher, Jim Rohn, and have always remembered his trademark quote:
“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.”
In Proverbs 24:3, we are told “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established” We can chose to find Wisdom by learning from our own mistakes, or learning from the instructions of others who have already walked the road we are about to travel.
It takes discipline (I know nobody likes to hear that word) to learn by instruction, to be patient, but this is the “pain of discipline” that Mr. Rohn referred to in the above quote.
To learn from the “paint of regret” generally results from succumbing to temporary pleasures and finding out the hard way that this path results in loss of character, loss of friendships, and often loss of health and money. This is why the pain of regret weighs tons!
I encourage you to stand tall and suffer the brief pain of discipline, to become strong, and achieve the results you seek, rather than taking the apparently “easy” path to destruction, and paying the price, suffering the pain of regret.
To encourage you, I leave you with another Jim Rohn quote: “Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”
