Here’s 7 key steps to making money from home
Many people are looking to make money from home and have no idea where to start.
It seems most have been lulled by the constant barrage of get rich quick schemes using the internet that they believe you can sit at home, exercising your fingers over the keyboard, and boatloads of money will fall out. Not so!
Assuming you have started, or looking to start a home business, you have found that you need to talk to people. There are three types of home businesses:
- Offline – the old approach of going to meet people, or use the telephone.
- Online – Primarily using the internet, but following up by phone.
- Blended – using a combination of technology and personal.
Whatever approach you use, you need to talk to people, and start with point number 1
1. Talk to more people
For your business to succeed, you must talk to many people to find the right ones for your business. To succeed faster, talk to more people. And what do you do when you talk to these people?
2. Ask the right questions
Unless you ask them questions, you will never know if your product or service is right for them. If you learn to ask the right questions, you will both learn what your prospect needs and you will also open their minds to their current situation as well. And what do you do after you ask the right questions?
3. Listen for the answers
Listen, really listen, to your prospects answers to your questions. Don’t listen politely until it’s your turn to talk. Use focused listening so you can really understand who they are and what they need, and keep exploring until you do. Now that I have found out more about my prospect and determined that there may be a fit, what next?
4. Present your offer.
You notice that I said “present your offer”, not start selling. Your presentation should give the prospect enough information to move forward if warranted. You need to avoid one major trap. You do not want to be the one presenting as you should be using your company’s tools, whether a DVD, a web presentation, a group meeting, a flip-chart, a Powerpoint etc. Let the tool do the presenting so your prospect realizes they don’t have to present and can just “push play” as well. What’s next?
5. Collect the decision
After an effective presentation, the answer should be yes or no. Often it is maybe for someone who needs more information, but often you will start to hear excuses. What then?
6. Deal with excuses
You may note that I used excuses rather than “objections”. Most times you will get an excuse that is meant to sound good and is really a wimpy way of saying “no”. However, you may hear legitimate concerns which may be triggered by a lack of self-confidence or even by a lack of information. In this case, determine if an properly answered objection will satisfy your prospect, but be aware we are taught to say no when looking at something new, especially if we feel that we are being “sold”. Deal with these openly and honestly, for a position of strength. Just discussing the issue with the prospect will often make them realize their excuse for what it is – an excuse. Get this out of the way and decide together if they will be a good fit for your business, and if they are, bring them aboard!
