We all have our opinions on the most expensive thing we own.
So turn that most expensive thing you own – a closed mind into the most valuable thing you own – an open mind!
Wow, that opened your mind, right?
- Not asked out the gal/guy you really liked because you were afraid of being turned down
- Not gone after your ideal job for the same reason.
- Turned down opportunity after opportunity because it didn't fit your picture of who you are?
Man, think about Joe Green
Mark Zuckerberg's college roommate, Joe Green, turned down an offer to help Zuckerberg start Facebook.
When the two were at Harvard, they created a Hot-or-Not-style website called Facemash, which got the pair in trouble with the university. When Zuck asked Green to help him with Facebook, Green's dad discouraged his son from doing another project with Zuck.
Had Green joined the company in those early days, he would have gotten about about a 5% stake, he thinks, which today would be worth about $7 billion.
That must hurt.....
Now I am not saying that every opportunity has the same potential as the one Joe Green rejected, but don't you think an open mind would help us make better decisions?
I have been in situations where I have asked God to open doors for me. Only trouble is rejecting every open door would not get me to my goal. I guess the trick is knowing what is the answer to prayer and what isn't.
As Wayne Gretzky stated - You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Does that mean you jump on everything that comes down the pike, certainly not.
An open mind doesn't mean you say yes to everything, but it also means that you don't say know either.
Give the opportunity serious consideration, pray over it if you like, and use your discretion in making your decision.
I believe your discernment in deciding should take into account your intuition, your gut instinct, into serious consideration.
Those who succeed take risks, but calculated risks, not foolish risks.
I have heard that making good decisions come from experience, and that experience comes from making bad decisions.
I recommend involving others who have the experience, who have already made the bad decisions.
Borrow some of their wisdom but it is your life, so your intuition is important.
All this to say, maintain an open mind to position you for success, both personal and business.
Wishing you a great 2019!
