The Bad News – the Kids of the Baby Boom are Seniors
The Good News – If you are alive today, you can take control of your life.
My friend Lynda Kenny blogged about baby boomers, and shared a bit of history. That brought to mind a song from The Bellamy Brothers about The Kids of the Baby Boom. I saw David and Howard perform their songs years ago, and I am a fan. You may remember “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me”? I placed their youtube video near the end of this post.
Nowadays, Baby Boomers are faced with different challenges, sometimes with health, but often more fiscal, as the life plan which we were raised with (go to school, get a good job, work 40 years, retire at 40%) doesn’t seem to apply anymore.
And the theory of investing your money to have it increase seems to have been turned upside down as well.
While in the US there is still money in the kitty for paying out Social Security, it doesn’t look that this solution will be viable much longer, or at a much reduced rate.
This trend away from long term employment can actually work in the favor of the seniors today. While finding a traditional job, at least above minimum wage, is a long shot, if you have skills at least the market exists to capitalize on your knowledge as companies that have let their staff go now need folks like you and I to fill the void, and provide the skill base need to keep the lights on until they have been able to bring the Young Turks up to speed.

May 8, 2015great post Ron. I’m pleased my post yesterday inspired you to write this. We are living longer and many people need an alternative. Network marketing is growing more and more and you are right to suggest it as a credible way of earning an extra income. Thanks for sharing.

May 8, 2015Definitely the best option out there. As Lynda said, people are living longer and longer and their retirement just can’t be stretched enough. I do have to say, it’s a much better option than being a greeter at Wal-Mart. 🙂
