Not only in Social Media but in Websites too!
Today, let’s look a how even the Rich and Famous don’t have their act together on the internet. Here’s what happens when you don’t protect your identity, your online real estate.
Hillary Clinton
Apparently hillaryclinton.net was purchased by Carly Fiorina, another presidential candidate, and it pointed to Carly’s campaign site.
When I checked, it points now to donaldjtrump.com, Donald Trump’s campaign site
Jeb Bush:
And Donald Trump, after the public sparring with Jeb Bush, also purchased jebbush.com which points to donaldjtrump.com as well.
Personally, I think that this situation is a hoot,
seeing people who believe they are a whole lot smarter than us, smart enough to be President of the USA, and yet not savvy enough to protect their online presence on social media.
Now, what does that mean to you?
If you feel there is a chance you may use social media and the internet to market yourself, your product, or your service, you would be wise to protect the main asset – your name.
The items above show what happens when you don’t protect this asset.
Everything you post, on your own “property” of course, remains in your control and on the “internet highway” where people can find you.
I say “your own property”, as you own your blog or website, you don’t own Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.
My final thoughts, if you are planning to be in business, you will want to protect your online asset strengths, so if your name or a derivative is available, preferably as a dot com rather than a dot net, go get it! I personally use GoDaddy for domain registrations but there are others, NameCheap etc.
So go get your name!
