Who is in charge of your life, or how to take responsibility

Who is in charge of your life? who is responsible? and why should you care?

The good news is that someone is responsible, and I hope it is you.

Why do I say that? If it is not you, then you have given control to someone else.

You may hear people say, when things are not going as they had hoped:

  • it’s my parent’s fault
  • it;s my spouses fault
  • it’s my kid’s fault
  • it’s the government’s fault
  • and it’s always someone else’s fault, right?

I have good news, if it is:

  • your parent’s fault – send them for treatment
  • your spouse’s fault – send them for counselling
  • your kid’s fault – you may be able to handle that one yourself if you think hard
  • it’s the government’s fault – well, what did you expect?
    • people used to leave their careers for a season, and then return to their career after a brief period of time
    • today we have career politicians who appear more interested in their career than we the people

So what am I saying?

  • If it is someone else’s fault, let’s send them for therapy and your problem will be fixed. Of course I am saying this tongue-in-cheek because that dog won’t hunt.
  • And let’s not even talk about it being the government’s fault – is anyone else succeeding? Well, you can too.

OK, so it’s back to you.

The Solution:

Three steps to taking charge of your life

  1. Make a decision – decide that “if it’s going to be it’s up to me”
  2. Carefully analyze where you are now – be realistic and factual
  3. Determine where you want to be (in 5 years perhaps) and be very thorough in developing this vision so that you can almost feel being there

What’s next?

If you have completed the 3 steps then we need to talk about your plan to get there, and we have run out of time in this post. That will be a great subject for a future post or posts.

Great message Ron! Tip 1 Make a decision – decide that “if it’s going to be it’s up to me” was on the money. That is where everything starts and ends with you. Thanks for sharing this!

lol..I love how you gave the ‘good news’ with what to do if your parents, spouse or kids are at fault. The truth is we are liberated only to the limits we set for ourselves and so it is ultimately in our power to take charge! Nice post

I love that! If it is going to be then it is up to me! Blaming everyone else for how our life goes doesn’t work for any one. We need to take responsibility for all the results we are achieving and if we don’t like it take some actions to change it.

Great post! I think that most people fail to take responsibility for their life and their business. It’s much easier to blame circumstances and while everybody is playing the blame game the smart people are using that opportunity take action and get the results.
