Bahamas Dream Cruise – November 2013

Dream Trip – Dream Cruise to Bahamas

We drove from Fletcher to Charleston, SC – a four hour drive – then all aboard on the Carnival Fantasy. A great way to take a cruise vacation!

We had a fun day at sea, meeting other “Dream Trippers” and enjoying the cruise benefits – need I say food?

We toured Nassau, from the history of the Bahamas, to the upper scale, middle class, and not so classy neighbourhoods, to the Queens Staircase, built by former slaves after the emancipation in the British Empire spearheaded by William Wilberforce and John Newton (a great movie by the way, Amazing Grace).

We toured Fort Fincastle and the surrounding straw markets of the locals hawking their wares, a very colorful selection.

We crossed the recently re-named Harry Belafonte bridge to reach Paradise Island and Atlantis (now who hasn’t seen that on TV).

As Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas, government offices abound. We were impressed by the investment the Chinese are making on the island, building a brand new hotel complex with 4,000 rooms, a convention center, a new golf course, and all the other expected amenities. The People’s Republic of China are even building roads and stadiums – is that where our money is going?

The next day we spent relaxing on Freeport, enjoying the ambiance. Then another fun day at sea, which would have been more fun if we hadn’t caught the storm which was moving across Florida.

All in all, we met great people, partied with our fellow dream trippers, and enjoyed the comedy club and the piano bar (for the music of course).

Here’s a photo of us with our Dream Tripper friends!
