We all want freedom, right?
Or do we?
In my opinion, I live in the greatest country in the world, which was founded on individual freedom.
Today when our freedom is attacked from all sides, it’s a good time to talk about Freedom.
Let’s start with one freedom that we all possess.
We have been given the freedom to choose.
Yesterday I talked about choosing to Respond rather than React when faced with challenges.
Today, let’s dive a little deeper on choice.
Choosing Truth or a Lie?
- John 8:32_ You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free
- Being able to choose the things that are excellent boils down to knowing and understanding what is truth and what is a lie
- Truth leads to Freedom, a Lie leads to Death
- John 10:10: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
When I was younger, I felt it was important to be right. And if you agreed with me, you could be right too.
I guess as I got older, I must have got stupider and stupider, as I didn’t always make right decisions.
At least time proved them not to be so right.
Do you think that maybe we make decisions based on our environment, the friends we keep, the books we read, the media we watch and listen too?
Is this what we build our belief system upon? Are we building on a foundation of rock, or of sand?
As I get older, I realize we often don’t hear the truth, but the promotion of an agenda.
So how do we find the truth?
The humbling fact is that the “truths” that we hold are often a combo of the opinions and paradigms of the people we associate with, and of who we listen too.
So my “truths” may or may not be the real truth?
And how do I find the “real truth”?
I have learned over the past few years that there is only one source of truth, and you really have to study it to determine the truth.
That would be the Bible.
It is written to be studied, and determination then taken in context with the surrounding verses and chapters.
Can it be taken out of context?
Surely you have heard that even the devil can quote the scripture for his own purposes. How does he do that? – taking it out of context of course.
How can I say the Bible is true when others consider it to be a collection of nice stories, even fairy tales?
The good news is that the Bible doesn’t need our agreement to be true. It is true.
OK Ron, how can I tell truth from a lie?
I have heard and I believe that
- if it uplifting and for your benefit, it is from God (truth)
- if it will lead you astray, for your harm, it is from satan (lie)
So I had to learn to submit what I believed to be true and test it against the Bible.
I guess He who created the world, and all of us, has a deeper understanding than me or you.
By working to try and follow His precepts, I have found more peace, and a better life.
And that’s not even talking about knowing where I am going next…..
I encourage you to enjoy real Freedom today, and from hereafter!
Ron
