Money is Evil? Or is it?

Money is the Root of all Evil

Many people feel Money is Evil

and that if you have a lot of money, you must be doing something bad rather than something good.

Money RonMcLean.comDoesn’t the Bible say that “money is the root of all evil”? No it doesn’t! The bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil.

Then what does that mean? What is the difference?

Love of money means that you place it higher than you love of God, effectively creating an idol of money which is a violation of the 1st Commandment.

What does the Bible really say about money (or money is evil)?

1 Timothy 6:10. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

John Wesley, in his Sermon 50, describes the use of money in detail, but Ron’s abridged version is this:

  1. Get All You Can: gain money wisely and honestly and do not be lazy
  2. Save All You Can: spend your money wisely
  3. Give All You Can: give to your family, your church etc, don’t limit yourself to 10%

What I take away from this wisdom from centuries past is that God did not create us to be lazy, but to use our God-given talents to produce that of value and to receive the rewards due to us for this service, and to do what is of a benefit to others.

I normally post about ways to create home business success but this appears to be a stumbling block to may and needs to be said.

If “Money is Evil” is not right, what should I do?

Well, we are often taught to work hard, but working harder rather than following successful people who work smarter doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.

I have learned that there is a direct relationship between value and money.

To quote my mentor Ray HigdonMoney is a reflection of the value you have put into the marketplace. Value is the solving of problems and helping of others.

Now, does that sound like evil when you are solving problems and helping others.

Magic JohnsonThis quote from Magic Johnson says it so well, as blessings come when you serve others.

Going forward!

If you have ever been inflicted by the “Money is Evil” philosophy, I encourage you do reprogram your mind to associate the honest acquisition of money to be required of you, as money is generally required to do good in our civilization, and the more money you acquire the more good you can do.

God loves you and wants you to prosper, in more than just your finances.

If you have grown past this philosophy, I would like to hear your story. Please comment if you agree or disagree with this message.
