Auto layoffs? More Layoff? Time for a Home Business, folks!
My old plant (General Motors – Oshawa, ON – 22 years) is laying off 1,000 workers.
This should be a wake-up call for seniors who are trapped in the paradigm that the company will take care of them.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. – Albert Einstein
Here’s the shift elimination announcement:
TORONTO (Reuters) — General Motors will eliminate one shift at its Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant in November, the company said today, cutting about 1,000 jobs as it makes production changes that were announced in 2012.
GM said it would offer retirement incentives to avoid layoffs. More than half of the 3,600 hourly workers at the plant are nearing retirement.
After Nov. 20, 2015, Oshawa Assembly will stop producing the Chevrolet Camaro, GM said. The company announced in 2012 that it would build the next-generation Camaro in Lansing, Mich., not Oshawa.
The “flex” line, which currently produces the Camaro as well as the Buick Regal, Chevy Impala and Cadillac XTS, will drop from three shifts to two. The separate “consolidated” line will continue at one shift.
GM said it would record a restructuring charge of about $200 million, mainly in the second quarter of 2015, because of the move. It said the charges were included in its January forecast of $700 million in restructuring charges for 2015.

Now I know I mentioned seniors, and that’s who will be approached to retire early. But what about the younger folks, with families, with teenagers wanting to go to school?
I believe that everyone needs to realize that they need to be in control of their future. And the people who realize this are the folks that I like to work with. If that is you, check in on my “work with Ron” page and let’s connect.
Be blessed,
Ron

May 1, 2015Super sad! I wish more people realized how important it is to take control of your life and future. Nothing is guaranteed. I wish them all well!

May 4, 2015Right Angela, it can only become a blessing if one responds with positive change.

May 1, 2015Boy, Ron do I understand layoffs… I grew up in Detroit Michigan and the automotive industry has sure changed people’s lives… used to be you could depend on your job… no longer…Great Post Ron thanks for sharing..

May 4, 2015Right on Ron, I worked at the Big 3 for 30 years and then became a supplier. Still have an automotive business but ready to wind it down for real freedom 🙂

May 2, 2015You bring up a great point Ron – regardless of age people need to have a plan B. Relying on a company to pay them and take care of them is risky.

May 4, 2015right Don, the paradigm of the company taking care of you doesn’t even appear to be true even “back then”

May 3, 2015Sad as it is, this post is also SO important. It is time to take control and build a strong foundation for a stable and successful home business. Sometimes a “layoff” can turn out to be the best thing that has ever happened to us (:

May 4, 2015thanks Keren, you are right – sometimes it’s a good kick in the pants, depending on our response.
